The Asenzya manufacturing facility in Oak Creek is ceasing operations and laying off 88 workers.
The news comes from a letter filed with the Wisconsin Bureau of Workforce Development by Solina USA, the food processing company which acquired Asenzya in 2021.
“On October 3, 2024, Solina USA announced its decision to cease manufacturing operations at its facility in Oak Creek, Wisconsin,” the letter reads. The Asenzya facility is at 7616 S. 6th St.
Asenzya “is a leading US provider of custom spice blends, seasoning solutions and functional products,” according to a Nov. 8, 2021, acquisition letter by Solina. At the time of the acquisition, Asenzya had over 145 employees, per the letter.
Solina will begin terminating the 88 affected employees on Dec. 20, 2024. The letter states the employees are not represented by a union and the job cuts are expected to be permanent.
There are 23 job titles affected, from roles with a single employee such as shipping clerk, plant manager, manufacturing engineer and others, along with titles with multiple employees including 11 packaging operators and 23 blending operators.
Bumping rights ― the ability for senior employees losing their jobs to take lower-level jobs ― are not available, according to the filing.
The 2021 acquisition letter notes the purchase of Asenzya was part of the company establishing itself in the United States. Solina entered North America in January 2020 when it acquired Canadian food service company Berthelet.
